Multan Sultans fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan Super League 2023 due to a fracture on his finger. A spokesperson for the franchise confirmed that Dahani was hit on the finger during their match against Lahore and several reports say that the 24-year-old could be out of action for two months.

Dahani was named as one of three traveling reserve players in Pakistan’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men T20 World Cup He made his Pakistan debut in November 2021. He has played two ODIs and 11 T20Is so far. He has been one of the most important bowlers for Multan Sultans. He picked up 20 wickets in his first season, and his absence will be a massive blow for Multan Sultans.

The Sultans have drafted  Mohammad Ilyas as a replacement for Dahani. Ilyas has already played for the franchise in season 5. The Mohammad Rizwan-led Sultans had fallen short by just one run in the inaugural game of the tournament in Multan on February 13. The next match of the Mohammad Rizwan-led side in the ongoing tournament is against Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday (February 15) in Multan.

The former interim chief selector stated that Dahani has the talent to succeed at the international level but he lacks the confidence required at the highest level of the game. Afridi further added that Dahani will improve his game further as he gains experience and he can prove to be a real asset to the Pakistan national team for a very long time.

“If they give Dahani more chances, he will get stronger,” Afridi remarked.

Afridi believes Dahani’s figures will improve as he plays more international cricket as possesses the talent to succeed.
