Indian veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik admitted Dhoni’s mania was so big that he could not play enough for India as he expected him to play. Dinesh Karthik recalled many things including his stint with KKR, Nidahas Trophy heroics, Abhishek Nayar’s influence on his career, and his competition with Dhoni on the RCB podcast, which was one of them.

Dinesh Karthik who made a sensational comeback to the Indian team for the 2022 World cup failed to perform as the team would have expected him to perform in the tournament and has been sidelined from Indian Team since the T20 world cup.

Karthik recalled Dhoni’s India A tour and that is the first time together form where Karthik was picked for the Indian team and Dhoni went on another trip with India A where he showed the world what he is capable of and took the world by storm.

“I made my debut before him. That was the first time I played a match together with him. I did so well that they picked me for the Indian team. From there, they went on another trip, there was an ODI tournament where he just blasted it there with boundaries and sixes. The world was still getting used to something like that, it was that sort of thing. They said he’s a special player.”

After that Dhoni made his debut for India in all three formats and took all opportunities in his way and captained India to win three ICC trophies for India. Dhoni will go down as one of the legends of the game.

“I came to the Indian team, but by then the Dhoni mania was so big that you had to pick him. He then replaced me in all formats and he did very well. At the end of the day, it is all about taking opportunities,” he said.

Dinesh Karthik always tried to make come back into the Indian team as an opener or a specialized middle-order batter and then as a finisher for India. The 37-year-old will play for Royal  Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023.
